t’s time for another elf tale.
Once upon a time when there was no TV only radio there came into the world
a child named Donald. He was the first and only child of Dr.. and Mrs.
Gogetum and was born when they had given up on having children at all. His
was a difficult birth and several times he almost died. Some of those who
worked at the hospital said it was the love of his parents alone that kept
him alive.
As a child Donald had many health problems and lacked both strength and
coordination.
He could not ride a bicycle. He could not win a race. He never won at
wrestling in gym. He couldn’t hit a target with a shotgun. All the other kids
picked on him. They called him Dilly Donald. But even as his body proved less
than one would desire Donald’s mind was far sharper than any of his
classmates. He was a straight A student
Because he was the way he was he spent a lot of time listening to the
radio. He really liked police shows. Those were the days when all cops were
good. When the police always won. When crime didn’t pay. Not like today’s
television. There were no anti-heroes. You never found yourself cheering for
the bad guy. Those were the good all days.
Early on Donald decided he wanted to be a cop. This was a totally
unrealistic desire.
He couldn’t run to chase crooks, he couldn’t fight, and he couldn’t
shoot.
Nevertheless when he was old enough he applied for entrance at the Police
Academy. He failed the entrance exam. He fell down during his run around the
track and he missed the target altogether in the shooting test.
So he went to college to become a lawyer. But in his heart of hearts he
still wanted to be a cop. He graduated from law school at the top of his
class and wrote one of the best bar exams ever. He was a very good
lawyer.
He did a lot of pro bono work because he cared about the poor and the needy
and wanted them to have justice as well. He was fairly happy as a lawyer but
he really wanted to be a cop.
One day, just after he finished a very difficult case where he had proven
that a poor boy was innocent and kept him out of jail, he was sitting in his
office when a little man in a Green Suit appeared. The man explained
