bad.

Mankind also jumped to the conclusion, something it has always done  , that the little dragons would grow up and become the big dragons. There was no evidence of this. The little dragons never hurt anybody. Well once in a while they burned down a house but then they breathed fire and it was an accident.

But humans, being what they are, killed little dragons wherever they found them. Soon there were many places where the beauty of the little dragons was no longer seen. There were a few humans who argued that the little ones should be left alone but the rest driven by fear ignored them. Mankind driven by fear is not very bright.

At this time there was a wise old dragon who did his best to protect the little dragons and to keep the big dragons from attacking people. One day after he saved a dozen little dragons by driving off a truly incompetent Knight and saving the Knight by keeping a hungry big dragon from attacking him he was visited by an elf. The elf said because of his good deed he was going to give him three wishes.

He thought and thought and then came up with wish number one.

He wished that all evil big dragons ( those that ate people) would be turned to stone and all the other big dragons would become invisible.

“AS you wish so shall it be “ said the elf.

Then he wished that all evidence that large dragons had ever existed would vanish from the earth.

“AS you wish so shall it be “ said the elf.

Finally he wished that the little dragons would become something that humans would love and that would fill the sky, the meadows, and the woods with beauty.

“AS you wish so shall it be “ said the elf.

There was a flash of light and every little dragon became a butterfly.

This is why till this very day there is no evidence that dragons ever existed though they still do. And it is where the beautiful butterflies came from.
